Toshimasa Kikuchi Geometrical Form 051, 2017
Japanese cypress and lacquer, 70 x 50 x 50 cm
(TKK-0001) Extra info
This piece is constructed from an ancient and valuable wood, coming from 200-year-old Japanese cypress trees. This is the same wood used for building temples and Buddhist sculptures in Japan. Some sections of the piece are lacquered, and others are brushed with oil. The design is based on a mathematically modelled motif, and is in the same series of work that Kikuchi currently has in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum.
