Louis Hanssen

1934 - 1968

Louis Hanssen was born in 1934.  A Canadian potter, theatre designer and writer, he made an impact on British cultural life while living and working in London.

Soon after Hanssen married Australian potter, Gwyn Hanssen Pigott, the two artists worked from a basement studio in Westbourne Grove, near Portobello Road.  While his output was limited, his work is of exceptional quality and demonstrates an influence from the modernist style of Lucie Rie and other contemporary British ceramic artists.
